MY BIYADHOO ISLAND TRIP DIARY
DEPART UK 22nd NOVEMBER 2009 RETURN 3rd
DECEMBER 2009
Sunday 22nd November 2009
Flew out from Gatwick
at 6pm on a direct flight with British Airways, had good seats at the back of
the plane and due to the plane being almost empty I had the back row to lie
down and get sleep through the flight, movies were
good, food OK and no screaming babies on this flight.

Monday 23rd November 2009 Arrived at Male
airport at 9am, got luggage pretty fast, and then got the speed boat to the
Island, it took 45 minutes and the ride was pretty chilled and not too bumpy,
weather was great where I was heading but raining in Male. Arrived and had
welcome drink; signed in and was led to the room, did some unpacking and hit
the water for a quick cool down and chill out, and slowly walked around to
get a refreshing drink and check in with the dive centre, then did some
snorkelling and got changed for dinner. Dinner was lovely,
lots to choose from and people who have moaned about the food are in my
opinion just too picky and need to chill out, it was filling and tasty and
enough choice for everyone. Got an evening drink and went to the room to pass
out after a long trip and fantastic 1st day. |

Tuesday 24th November 2009 Woke up and went for
breakfast, lovely choice. Then headed off to the dive centre for the
Orientation Dive at 10.30am starting from passage 7 on the house reef, I did
not like this dive as I had to mask clear and the salt hurts the eyes and my
mask fogged up for the rest of the dive, so I did not see very much. Went
back to the room and chilled out and decided to do the House Reef Dive at 3pm
from Passage 7 again in the afternoon, this time I enjoyed it thoroughly. It
was beautiful; I saw everything I missed the 1st time around... After the dive went
and got cleaned up and dressed and went for a quick walk about and an evening
walk along the beach while the sun set for the night. Wow it was stunning,
the sky was so pink and the sea so blue. The sand was like powder between the
toes. Then headed off to get a quick pre dinner shandy
and off to dinner, which was different from the night before and just as
tasty. After dinner went and had another quick drink then off to bed for
another earlyish night ready for an early start for
diving |

Wednesday 25th November 2009 Woke up nice and
early and headed off for breakfast then headed to the dive centre and
discussed the underwater 9am Dive at Guraidhoo
Corner, off to the Dhoni and away we went.. The
dive was great, I went a little deep and had some issues with my dive
computer at the end of the dive (lets not mention
this again) Got back to the
Island and went to dry off and get changed and headed off for a walk along
the beach and to sit in the shallows for some chill out time. Took some
photos then went off to the bar for an afternoon cool drink. Headed off for
some lunch and relaxed a little before the afternoon dive. At 3pm went for the
Dive at Losfushi Kuda Kandu, again another fantastic dive, I ended up going up
at the end of the dive with a stranger I did not know and pulled a 9 minute
stop.... OMG I need to get my computer sorted out. Got dressed and off to the
bar for a pre dinner drink and a chill out. Dinner was different again and
still very yummy |

Thursday 26th November 2009 In the morning woke
up a little late which was nice and did not do very much; had a late
breakfast and then went and had a snorkel along the house reef. When got back
to our room the room boy had done the bed beautifully with floral decorations
and left a lovely bottle of red South African wine of which I thought I would
take back to the UK with us only to have it taken away from me at the airport
as I placed it in hand luggage not hold luggage.... DARN... Chilled out around
lunch time and got ready for the 3pm Dive on the House Reef. It was a lovely
dive, I saw Sponge Bobs mate Patrick with the chubby wrinkly bum; this did
make me laugh and giggle for some time under the water. Finished the dive on
a high note and came back up in good spirits, went back to the room got
dressed and ready then went to take some photos on the island and headed off
for a drink before dinner In the evening went
for the pre booked Romantic Dinner on the beach under a perfect moon with soft
sand between my toes and the sea gently lapping 5 metres away, The meal was a
Prawn salad starter, Lobster and chips 1st main course, Stead 2nd
main course, Small tart with chocolate swirl desert and a chocolate cake with
candles on it. The table was laid out so beautifully and the setting was
perfect. |

Friday 27th November 2009 Woke up early and
went for some breakfast, not too much though as had to go off for the free
8.30am Snorkel Trip. It was fantastic, the boat ride there was great, spent
it on top of the boat taking pictures and chilling out, got there, got in and
got ready to go off snorkeling. The snorkel was
fantastic, saw a Nurse shark basking under a rock; I got to within about 50cm
of him snorkelling down and cut my finger holding myself down on a rock... owch... but so worth it. Then headed back to the island.
The snorkel lasted about an hour (the whole trip lasted about 2 hours). Went
and got dressed and off to have some lunch before the Canoe trip this
afternoon. During the afternoon
took a Canoe to the sandbank which is quite a paddle but very much worth the
hard work, it is a small sand bank, but looking back on the Island makes the
trip worth it. Took some good shots, it was a very romantic setting, on this
little patch of sand surrounded by water and no one else around, and nothing
else there. Very isolated. Stayed about 30 minutes then headed back to the
Island to get ready for the 6pm Night Dive at Vilivaru
Giri which was fantastic, saw a sleeping turtle and
parrot fish and many other fantastic night fish. It was so fantastic when I
got back to the dive centre I asked if possible to have another night dive in
this spot, so one is set up for Sunday night. I can’t wait. Went and got showered
and ready for dinner and some shandys before bed.
What a lovely day. |

Saturday 28th November 2009 Had a little lay in
today, I am really liking the bed here, it is very hard which is doing
wonders for my back, even carrying the heavy cylinder on my back is not
hurting me, had a late breakfast and headed off to have a snorkel, will
complete the entire Island today. Have so far snorkeled
two thirds of the island and the last third is being
done today. It was a stunning snorkel; I will miss all of this when I have to
go back to the UK. Got out and got ready for lunch had a nice cold drink and
went and lay on the beach for about 10 minutes, couldn’t do more than that,
found myself heading back into the water, I just can’t keep out of the water.
Then went off to the dive centre for the 3pm Dive at Triton Giri. A lovely dive and got some good photos here. Came
back to the Island and went back to the room to get showered and dressed.
Didn’t do very much for the rest of the day, just lay about on the beach and
walked around the Island, did a full walk around video which took about 20
minutes with the odd stop in between. Later on walked along the beach in the
early evening and at sunset and took some pictures, then went for the pre
dinner shandy and off to dinner. After dinner the
local band came to play so off course ha to take the Dance floor by storm
with the Cha Cha Cha, had
too much to drink, well not too much, but just enough to get up on the dance
floor, and had compliments from 3 different couples regarding the dancing. I
must say I did feel rather proud of that as since the lessons and have never
had a chance to actually use it and finally when did use the skill got compliments. Very chuffed. Then off to bed for a great
night sleep. |

Sunday 29th November 2009 Had a relaxed
morning, walked about the island for a bit after breakfast then went off for
an 11am Dive on the House Reef I do like the house reef it is very beautiful,
stayed under for just over an hour, and came up feeling great. Got out and
went and sat on the beach and walked through the shallows, there was a little
bit of cloud about so it was not too hot which was quite nice. Sat around the
bar and walked about the island having a very chilled and relaxed day, I am
feeling like I am on holiday and relaxing rather than running around and not
feeling relaxed after a holiday, it is nice. Later got ready for the 6pm
Night Dive at Vilivaru Giri
(they got enough people to go on it YAY) and again it did not disappoint, I
love this dive, very cool, My torch was not really as bright near the end of
the dive, but got me through the last minutes of the dive. Got back to the
Island and it was raining, this is the first real rain the Island has had
since coming to the island, and it is welcomed, everything is so green after
the rain and all refreshed. Went off to diner and then a few drinks at the
bar and then earlyish to bed as have an early
morning dive tomorrow. |

Monday 30th November 2009 Woke up early for
the morning dive….. had a quick breakfast and then
off for the 9am Kuda Giri
Wreck Dive that had been begged for since missing the wreck dive last week.
The dive was fantastic, my 1st real wreck dive, I wove in and out
of the doors and nooks and crannies, and the shots were good, but due to it
being deep (30 meters) could not stay down there very long (pity as I could
have stayed down there much longer exploring) Loved it. Came back up to the
boat and wow it felt great, On approaching the top of the water I looked up
and could see rain falling on it from below....what a strange but beautiful
view. Back on land there
was a bit of rain, but not much so decided to have a little lunch and head
off for an afternoon snorkel, I will miss all of this so much. Went back in
after a long snorkel and got washed and dressed and ready for the free night
fishing trip, it was lovely, sat on the roof of the Dhoni
on the way out, moored up and started fishing, it was very peaceful, no bites
for a while so off we went to a different spot just off the Biyadhoo Island. I caught 2 fish (felt very guilty about
it) and will be eating one for Lunch tomorrow. It was lovely and calm and
peaceful and an experience I think anyone who goes to the Island should try
just for the experience of it. |

Tuesday 1st December 2009 Woke up early again
today and headed off for breakfast, then off to the 9.30am Dive House Reef
this will be the last dive I can do as I fly out tomorrow, I will enjoy this
dive and soak up everything. It was beautiful and all the fish I could have
wanted to see I saw. I said my good-byes to Nemo,
sad moment... sniff, but the dive was good and I came up in good spirits, a
bit of a distance from the Dive centre, so I lay on my back and finned my way
back to the shore nice and slowly, got out the water and went and showered
and got dressed, making every moment count as tomorrow I leave. We walked
along the beach and the shallows of the sea, walked around the whole Island
the other way around this time and took some lovely pictures of the flowers
and anything that was stunning. Went off to lunch which was the fish I caught
last night, it was lovely and very well prepared by the chef... yummy yummy, thank you to all the staff who were fantastic
especially our waiter and all the bar staff. I have also discovered Pina coladas which are very tasty so I will not
have too many but just enough... The rest of the afternoon was spent very
lazily walking around the island, sitting on the beach chairs, walking in the
water and following the baby shark and feather tailed stingray around and
just generally enjoying what I will miss so much. Went for dinner and had
drinks after... probably too many drinks, but it is a holiday and the last
night here. Paid the final bill. Then off to bed. |

Wednesday 2nd December 2009 Departure Day A sad day as had to leave
very early, had enough time to nibble a small breakfast, cover all the tips
and head off to the reception to check out. Got on the boat back to Male. The
weather was a bit cloudy, but not too bad. About 30 minutes into the boat
ride to Male hit a storm and the boat was being thrown around quite hard, one
guy was hanging over the boat a little worse for wear. But I was quite
enjoying it... giggle, arrived in Male and went through quite fast, had a 1
hour wait and then onto the plane back to the UK, sad sniff sniff. Bye- Bye Maldives and Biyadhoo,
see you soon I hope. |
